Unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 5 Final Using Gevey SIM

In case you have missed it, Apple just released its highly anticipated update to its mobile operating system iOS, the iOS 5. Now if you are using Gevey SIM to unlock your iPhone 4, you might be wondering if the SIM will work on the iOS 5? Well as it turns out, you can unlock your iPhone 4 using Gevey SIM, you just need to follow the instructions we've detailed here and you're good to go.

Gevey SIM

Before Updating to iOS 5:

DO NOT upgrade to iOS 5 using the stock firmware from Apple. Doing so will cause your iPhone 4 to lose its unlock by upgrading its unlockable baseband. You don't want that of course. Instead of using the stock iOS 5 firmware, we will be cooking our own iOS 5 custom firmware using the latest version of Redsn0w which we will be using to upgrade our iPhone 4 to in order to preserve your unlockable baseband. This way we can use Gevey SIM to unlock your device after the upgrade. Just follow this mini guide first:
  • Download the latest version of Redsn0w (0.9.10b1) for Windows or Mac  , which has a new feature that lets you create custom IPSWs.
  •  For iOS 5 IPSW download links, click here.
  • Launch Redsn0w and click "Extras" from the main menu and then select "Custom IPSW"How to create custom IPSW using redsn0w guide here.
  • Redsn0w will now create the custom IPSW for you.
  • Once that's done, enter "Pwned DFU" mode through Redsn0w's "Extras" option.
  • After that restore to the custom firmware we've created earlier using iTunes 10.5 (download links here).
  • Now you can use Gevey SIM to unlock your device.

Steps on How to Unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 5 Final Using Gevey SIM:

  1. Navigate to Settings » General » Network and turn OFF 3G. Make sure to keep Cellular Data and Data Roaming option ON. Also see to it that there is NO unofficial SIM present in your iPhone 4 SIM tray during this step.

How To Preserve Baseband & Create Custom iOS 5.0.1 using Redsn0w

Earlier today,iPhone Dev Team released redsn0w to provide untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1. But if you rely on ultrasn0w or Gevey unlock, you shouldn’t directly update to factory iOS. Instead you must use redsn0w or sn0wbreeze to build custom firmware. This custom firmware preserves the baseband so you can unlock iOS 5.0.1 with ultrasn0w or Gevey unlock.
@iH8sn0w released updated sn0wbreeze to support untethered exploit for iOS 5.0.1. Below is a tutorial which shows how you can preserve baseband & create custom iOS 5.0.1 using redsn0w 0.9.10b1.

How To Preserve Baseband & Create Custom iOS 5.0.1 using Redsn0w 0.9.10?

This tutorial is for both Windows & Mac
2. Download redsn0w:
3. Launch redsn0w & click Extras

Redsn0w - iOS 5.0.1 Custom IPSW
3. Point redsn0w 0.9.10b1 to iOS 5.0.1 IPSW of your iDevice (For this tutorial I have used iPhone 4S IPSW)
Redsn0w ios 5.0.1 Select IPSW
4. After you select iOS 5.0.1 IPSW, redsn0w will patch the IPSW file
Redsn0w iOS 5.0.1 - IPSW Patch
5. Within a couple of minutes, redsn0w will patch iOS 5.0.1 IPSW & save the custom iOS 5.0.1 in the same folder where your original IPSW is saved. This custom IPSW will preserve the baseband so you can use ultrasn0w or Gevey unlock with iOS 5.0.1.
Redsn0w - iOS 5.0.1
The name of custom iOS 5.0.1 created via redsn0w starts with “NO_BB…
Be careful.
6. Click Ok & then you’ll see the “Extras” screen again. Now this time, click Pwned DFU. Pwned DFU helps to restore your iPhone to custom firmwares
Redsn0w - iOS 5.0.1 - Pwned DFU

Preserve Baseband and Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Using Sn0wbreeze 2.8b11

iOS 5.0.1 final public release hit a few hours ago and hackers have updated the jailbreak tools as well. Just posted a guide on how to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 using redsn0w and here is another guide for Sn0wbreeze fans.
image
Sn0wbreeze can preserve your current baseband and update your device to iOS 5.0.1. Remember, the latest redsn0w version can do the same but for some reason people still opt for Sn0wbreeze.
This guide is for:
  • iPhone 3GS users on 6.15.00 baseband > You can use the guide, preserve the baseband and update your device.
  • Gevey SIM users > Preserve baseband and use Gevey.
  • Ultrasn0w Users > Well, ultrasn0w is not updated yet to support iOS 5.0.1. But when its out, preserve the baseband and update your device.

How to Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 using Sn0wbreeze 2.8b11

1. Download iOS 5.0.1 firmware IPSW for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch
2. Now Download iTunes 10.5 for Windows or Mac
4. Run Sn0wbreeze, give it the iOS 5.0.1 .IPSW file
5. From the settings choose wisely the stuff you need. Go to Expert Mode for “preserve your baseband” option; if you are on 6.15.00 or using Gevey SIM or rely on Ultrasn0w to unlock iPhone. Once done, choose Build and continue.
6. Wait for Sn0wbreezed to cook the custom iOS 5.0.1 beta 1 file.
7. Open iTunes 10.5, connect your device and use “Shift + Restore” button and give it the custom iOS 5.0.1 beta 1 file you cooked earlier (should be on your desktop).
8. Wait for iTunes to restore the device to iOS 5.0.1 custom .ipsw file.
9. Once the procedure is done and you see the “DONE” message. Run iBooty (should be on your Desktop) and follow the instructions on your screen. iBooty will push the DFU mode and after a few processes, your device should boot up.

How To Unlock iPhone 4S(GSM) Without jailbreak (USING SIM CARD BUG).

Update: Further reports on this suggest that it only works with AT&T devices. Furthermore, when you insert a working AT&T SIM, you have to go back through the unlock process, so this isn’t permanent.
Alright, this is a very fast guide to unlock a 4S without a jailbreak. It works via a bug that bypasses activation, simply by entering SIM cards. Note that this is reported as working, but we haven’t tested ourselves! But you can be sure that we’ll remove it if we can verify that it’s not working! Please also be aware that future iOS updates could break this, and restoring could mean it has to be redone. Unless the device is actually factory unlocked via this method, then be vigilant.

Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Insert original carrier AT&T SIM card (or a supported SIM card. International users should use their corresponding carriers for this guide. However, ONLY the specified method here is known working).
Step 2: Dial 611 for AT&T customer service hotline and drop the call
Step 3: Turn on Airplane Mode
Step 4: Take out your AT&T SIM card
Step 5: Insert T-Mobile SIM card
Step 6: Make sure WiFi is switched off ( also tap on ‘Forget this Network” to make sure it doesn’t connect automatically later to your usual one)
Step 7: Switch off Airplane Mode and iPhone will search for network. This is followed by the Apple splash screen appearing.
Step 8: Activation Required will now be displayed on the screen
Step 9: The EDGE network will activate automatically – notice that the ‘E’ on the top left corner of the screen will appear
Step 10: Wait for about 20-30 seconds and turn off your phone
Step 11: Turn on your iPhone and the same Activation Required screen will be displayed again
Step 12: When you see the one signal bar, tap on Use Cellular Connection
Step 12: Eject your SIM card
Step 13: Activation Required screen will be displayed
the second time
Step 14: Insert SIM card again. If you don’t see T-Mobile as activated in the top corner, repeat steps 12-14.
Step 15: Congratulations, your iPhone 4S should now be unlocked!

Fix Camera Roll Error on iPhone 4S / iPad 2 When Jailbreaking 5.0.1 Untethered with Absinthe Greenpois0n

How to fix camera roll error on iPhone 4S / iPad 2 when jailbreaking 5.0.1 untethered with Absinthe Greenpois0n. Few hours ago Dream Team (Pod2g, P0sixninja and MuscleNerd) released Absinthe Greenpois0n jailbreak to bring 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Some users have reported that camera roll is empty when jailbreaking iPhone 4S / iPad 2 on 5.0.1 with Absinthe Greenpois0n.
Actually this is not an error in the application it's just an uncompleted jailbreak. To fix “Camera Roll” error you have to rerun the app once to fix, then another time to complete jailbreak.

Nikias Bassen (@pimskeks) has just released Greenpois0n Absinthe 0.4 bringing the support to Mac OS X 10.5 support (PPC+Intel CPU). In addition to this, Absinthe version 0.4 fixes a bug in payload generator that might cause a crash while trying to jailbreak iPhone 4S or iPad 2 on Windows PC on iOS 5.0/5.0.1. Linux version of Absinthe has also been bumped to version 0.4 to keep the version same across all three OS platforms. The complete changelog can be found here.

Greenpois0n Absinthe 0.4

If have already jailbroken iPhone 4S or iPad 2 successfully with absinthe 0.3 on Mac and Windows, there is no need to re-jailbreak your device. You must, however, install Corona 1.0-8 patch via Cydia to fix the iBooks bug where it fails to load complete text and images of DRM protected iBooks.
Initially, Chronic Dev team released Absinthe for Mac (OSX >= 10.6), and many users who were not having Windows PC or those running Mac computer on older OSX 10.5. x, PPC and Intel CPU, did not had a chance to jailbreak their A5 device. Everytime they try they used to get same error – ‘The application Absinthe quit unexpectedly’. Since Absinthe v0.4 is out now, users can download Absinthe 0.4 to jailbreak their iPhone 4S or iPad 2.
Perhaps, couple of Windows users was facing serious crashing issues in version 0.3while trying to jailbreak 5.0/iOS 5.0.1. The latest Absinthe 0.4 fixes a critical bug in payload generator that might be causing a crash.

Download Absinthe 0.4 for Windows, Mac, Linux

After you download Absinthe 0.4, you may follow our step-by-step guides on how to jailbreak iPhone 4S or second generation iPad on Windows or Mac.
